Gap year approach is increasingly common in some countries which motivates young individual to travel before joining the university. This provide them a chance to explore the world and look for opportunities for career. Though such instances are expensive and might drag a young learners to unethical activities. This essay will discuss advantages and disadvantages of travelling gap year.
To begin, travelling enables individuals to explore the world. Cultural differences is one of the joy this world offers. Exploration of culture, trends enables individuals to foresee the career in demand, looking for opportunities and future prospects in the most comfortable zone where there are neither study stress nor family pressures. For instance, Mark Holthe, who is a famous English itinerary wrote in his book “The Universal Truth” that in his gap year which he had spent in travelling , he realized that tourism is growing field and he must pursue his career as he have skills and interest in this field. Thus, it makes it clear that gap year allows individuals to polish their potentials and look for future goals and objectives.
Alternatively, gap year that provides many advantages may also build financial pressures and threats that individuals might end up with unethical social activities such as theft or drugs to fulfill their urge to travel. According to a research paper published by Cambridge University concluded that 6 out of 10 individuals consider travelling in gap year as an expensive activity and 2 out of these 6 choose criminal ways to fulfill this desire. Hence, it is considered that gap year is a financial strain which drags individuals to negative activities.
